Description : Artist Bio:

My name is Adisa Ben Achaki, born in Kansas City, Kansas on February 16, 1950. I grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota during the 1960's, a time of great and vast social upheaval and political unrest centering on the highly consequential African-American Civil Rights Movement and the discontent caused by America's war in Vietnam.

These things proved propentious for me in my search for a life that makes sense: at 24 I too was in Vietnam, as a U.S.Navy member who witnessed and participated in the final, violent convulsions of that war with the fall of Saigon to the armed forces of North Vietnam and the withdrawal of the U.S. military.

Discharged from the Navy and living in the San Francisco Bay Area, my life continued with the hopes and aspirations of a typical young person who wished to believe that life contains a plethora of good to be discovered and acted upon. Compelled by energies I cannot truly describe, I returned to my childhood-established drive to make art,in many, differing mediums, as a career and reconnected myself to this satisfying pursuit.

Today, through many years, after a greatly contenting effort in fatherhood and the raising of two wonderful boys to become men, I reimmerse and recontinue my love of art and
art-making to the present time.
